Sri Lanka thrash hapless Kenya

Colombo: Needing 143 to win, Sri Lankan opener Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga came out all guns blazing against a harmless Kenyan bowling attack in the Group A encounter here on Wednesday.

Earlier, fast bowler Lasith Malinga celebrated his debut at the 2011 World Cup by taking a career best 6-38, including a hat-trick, as Sri Lanka bowled out Kenya for 142 on Tuesday.

Malinga showed no signs of the back strain which had prevented him from competing in Sri Lanka's first two games in Group A.

He trapped Tanmay Mishra leg before wicket off the last delivery of his seventh over and then clean bowled Peter Ongondo and Shem Ngoche off successive deliveries in his next.

Malinga claimed his fourth wicket in six deliveries when he had last man Elijath Otieno also clean bowled.

Brother Collins Obuya (52) and David Obuya (51) struck half centuries and added 94-runs for the third wicket, but the rest of the batting crumbled against Malinga's pace after Kenyan captain Jimmy Kamande won the toss and elected to bat.
