India became the first team to qualify for the quarter-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup with a five-wicket win over the Netherlands in New Delhi.

Chasing 190 to win, the home side were wobbling at 139 for five - thanks largely to Pieter Seelaar's three for 53 - and it needed a patient knock of 51 from Yuvraj Singh to see them through.

Earlier, Holland were thankful to a face-saving 38 off 36 balls from Peter Borren after two wickets apiece from Yuvraj and Piyush Chawla and figures of three for 20 from Zaheer Khan had threatened a collapse.

Having won the toss, Holland got off to a positive start and reached 50 in the 14th over, but spin came to the hosts' rescue as Chawla bowled Eric Szwarczynski (28) and Yuvraj had Wesley Barresi (26) given out lbw.

On top of a pedestrian run-rate, the Dutch were in further trouble with the losses of Ryan ten Doeschate (11) and Tom Cooper - who had stabilised things with his 29 off 47 balls - in successive overs to Yuvraj and Ashish Nehra respectively.

Khan dismissed Bas Zuiderent to leave Holland 101 for five, while a quick throw by Chawla had Tom de Grooth run out at the striker's end.

Borren, who smashed three boundaries and two sixes during his late cameo, and Mudassar Bukhari (21) together put on 38 for the eighth wicket as Holland managed to scrounge out 55 runs in their last seven overs.

In reply, openers Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag were boisterous from the word go, as the former hit three successive boundaries off ten Doeschate to become the first batsman to record 2,000 ICC Cricket World Cup runs.

The duo raced to 69 inside eight overs, but Seelaar's inroads brought Holland right back into the game.

First Sehwag's hasty cut had him caught at point for 39, before Tendulkar (27) and Yusuf Pathan (11) fell in the 10th over to leave India on 82 for three.

Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj steadied the ship after Virat Kohli's (12) dismissal and comfortably notched a 40-run stand before Gambhir was stumped out after a run-a-ball 28.

However, India seemed well in sight of the win at that point and Yuvraj, partnered by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (19 not out) fittingly hit the winning boundary that brought up his 50 as well.

ICC Cricket World Cup2011- NZ vs PAK

New Zealand won by 110 runs

Score Card: Click Here

Birthday boy Taylor scored 131 off 124 balls and in a late blitz added 84 in 22 balls with Jacob Oram (25 off nine) as New Zealand blasted 100 off last five overs to reach 302 for seven.

Pakistan's chase was derailed after half the side were dismissed inside 15 overs, with paceman Tim Southee picking up three, but Abdul Razzaq (62 off 74) gave the former champions a flicker of hope before they were eventually dismissed for 192 in under 42 overs.

Batting first after winning the toss, New Zealand lost Brendon McCullum and Jamie How cheaply but Martin Guptill and Taylor guided them past 100 from 26 overs.

Guptill, who reached his half-century off 72 balls, fell seven runs later to Shahid Afridi's guile and Mohammad Hafeez soon sent back James Franklin.

However, Taylor, who turned 27 today, hung in to reach his half-century off 78 balls and added 62 with Scott Styris as the Black Caps struggled to 175 with eight overs to go.

But it was carnage thereafter as Taylor, who was dropped twice by Kamran Akmal when on nought and four, combined for 35 in 23 balls with Nathan McCullum after Styris' exit for 28.

Gul (three for 32) then dismissed McCullum for a 10-ball 19, but more agony was in store for Pakistan as Taylor and Oram smashed a flurry of sixes and fours in a late onslaught.

Akhtar's ninth over went for 28 - three sixes and two fours - while Abdul Razzaq's next over yielded 30, which included a trio of sixes and two fours.

Taylor completed his century off 117 balls, but his last 62 runs came off just 16. In all, the vice-captain smacked eight fours and seven sixes during his well-paced unbeaten innings.

In reply, Pakistan struggled against the New Zealand pace attack as Kyle Mills and Tim Southee reduced the former champions to 45 for five inside 15 overs.

Southee picked up Mohammed Hafeez, Kamran and Misbah-ul-Haq, while Mills dismissed Ahmed Shehzad and Younus Khan.

Afridi tried to counter-attack with a couple of fours and a six but was soon dismissed by Oram.

Umar Akmal and Razzaq then held the Kiwis at bay for the next 11 overs as Pakistan inched past 100, but Nathan McCullum provided the breakthrough by scalping the former for a 58-ball 38.

Razzaq soon became the fourth cricketer to score 5,000 runs and claim over 250 wickets in ODIs, after Sanath Jayasuriya, Jaques Kallis and Afridi.

Pakistan slid to 125 for eight when off-spinner McCullum dismissed Abdul Rehman, but Razzaq hung around with tail-ender Gul and brought up his 23rd ODI fifty off 62 balls.

The pair added 66 off 51, but their rearguard effort ended when Razzaq holed out in the deep off Styris.

The all-rounder also picked up last man Akhtar a couple of balls later, as Gul remained unbeaten on 34 off 25 balls.

ICC Cricket World Cup2011-Canada Vs Kenya(Live Streaming)

"Win provides us the right impetus"

After taking Canada to their second ICC CWC win ever, skipper Ashish Bagai feels that the victory against Kenya will give them the right impetus

Chasing 199 for victory, Canada were led by fine half-centuries from skipper Ashish Bagai and Jimmy Hansra as they coasted home with five wickets to spare, registering their first win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 at Feroz Shah Kotla on Monday.

The win brought smiles to the Canada camp as skipper Ashish Bagai received the loudest cheer from the Kotla crowd because of his obvious Indian connection.

“It was indeed a special win for us as it came in front of the Delhi crowd which wanted us to do well. It was great, I was there for the first one in 2003, and am here for this one so pretty happy to get the win.Hopefully, we can use this game to spark us for the next two games,” an elated Bagai said after the match.

Canada skipper also believes that the win will be a perfect tonic for the boys and will instill a self-belief in the team.

“We all practiced hard as a unit so it was important to get a win under our belt. Glad we won this. This gives us just the impetus we needed. Hopefully, the win will inspire us in the future,” Canada skipper added.

Bagai also heaped praise on his bowlers and thanked them for giving Canada early breakthrough in the match.

“It’s definitely a part of the goal that we want to achieve. We had a disappointing batting display against Zimbabwe and Pakistan, we had a chance of getting a win over Pakistan but we are living in the present. Henry (Osinde) did a fantastic job first up. Kenya were upset by early blows that Osinde gave and that meant a lot.

“The score under 200 meant that we were fortunate enough to have no run-rate pressure; four runs an over on that wicket would always be gettable if you spend some time. Moreover, I had my entire family present. My grandparents, my parents, cousins and about fifty people cheering us up. It was good to have them,” Bagai signed off with a winning smile

Rain washes out Lanka-Australia tie

The ICC Cricket World Cup Group A clash between Sri Lanka and Australia at Colombo has been abandoned due to rain.

Opting to bat first under cloudy conditions, Sri Lanka had reached 146 for three in 32.5 overs before the heavens opened. Both sides pick up a point apiece.

The Lions lost three early wickets - those of Tillakaratne Dilshan (four), Upul Tharanga (six) and Mahela Jayawardene (23) - before captain Kumar Sangakkara (73 not out) built a 71-run stand with Thilan Samaraweera (34 not out) to lead their recovery.

The result puts Sri Lanka in second place in Group A ahead of Australia. Both teams have five points.

Sri Lanka had lost their second game of the competition to Pakistan at the same venue, and the onus was on the hosts to deliver against major opposition, with their wins so far coming against Canada and Kenya.

But a stunned silence prevailed around the R Premadasa Stadium in the second over as Shaun Tait despatched Dilshan - caught at second slip by Cameron White - just moments after the duo were involved in a bit of sledging.

The hosts' were two down in the seventh over as Tharanga's cut off Brett Lee was brilliantly caught by Steve Smith at point.

Sangakkara helped build a promising 44-run stand, but Smith again spoiled the party by running out Jayawardene with a direct hit.

Things settled down with the introduction of spin as Sangakkara crossed his 50, while Australia used up both their decision reviews against Samaraweera, who provided able support until the stoppage of play.

ICC World Cup2011-West Indies hammer Bangladesh at home

West Indies handed Bangladesh a crushing nine-wicket defeat after bundling them out for 58 inside 19 overs in their ICC Cricket World Cup match.

MATCH SCORECARD

Left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn picked up four wickets while pace duo Kemar Roach and Darren Sammy claimed three victims each to skittle out the hosts for the lowest total ever made by a Test playing nation in World Cup history.

Chris Gayle then blasted 37 off 36 balls to overhaul the score as West Indies finished off the match in just under two and a half hours.

Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh got off to a dismal start.

Kemar Roach, who claimed a hat-trick in their victory over Holland, gave West Indies the first breakthrough when an indecisive Tamim Iqbal prodded at an outswinger to be caught at second slip.

Sammy then claimed two quick wickets to see off Imrul Kayes and Mushfiqur Rahim as the home side slipped to 25 for three.

The collapse continued when Junaid Siddique, who was holding one end up, was trapped lbw by Roach for 25 from 27 balls, and a couple of overs later Benn bowled captain Shakib Al Hasan through the gate.

Bangladesh crawled past 50 amid cheers from the home crowd, but the joy was short-lived as Sammy ended Raqibul Hasan's 17-ball vigil - caught brilliantly at point by Kieron Pollard.

The Tigers were soon 56 for seven when Naeem Islam became Benn's second victim after the tall left-arm spinner's delivery clipped the outer edge and lobbed into the hands of wicketkeeper Devon Thomas.

Roach then added Mohammed Ashraful as his third wicket with the first ball of his second spell, while Benn saw off number 10 Shafiul Islam and Rubel Hossain in the next over to wrap up the innings.

Only three bowlers were required to bowl out Bangladesh, who lost their last five wickets for just eight runs and in less than six overs.

In reply, West Indies made light work of the chase by rattling off the required runs inside 13 overs.

Gayle, who became the fourth West Indies batsman to reach 8,000 runs in one-day internationals, hit six boundaries in his brief innings as they romped home with Darren Bravo remaining unbeaten on eight.

The only moment of glory for the home team was when when spinner Islam knocked down the middle-stump of Devon Smith in the sixth over.

ICC World cup2011-NZ Beat Zimbabwe by 10 wickets

Ahmedabad: Zimbabwe was restricted to just 162 by a dominant New Zealand bowling attack after electing to bat first in their World Cup Group A match on Friday.

Brendan Taylor top-scored with 44, but his teammates failed to cope with the bowling of Daniel Vettori, Tim Southee and Kyle Mills, who came in for Jamie How after a seven-wicket defeat by Australia.

Southee returned the best figures of 3-29, while Vettori and Mills took two wickets each.

Vettori dropped an easy catch in the field, but went on to take the wicket of Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura with his very first delivery and then dismiss Regis Chakabva in the same over as Zimbabwe started to crumble.

Both sides have one victory and a defeat from their previous two games.
